1. Visit Twitter.com and click on “sign up now.
2. Pick a username and password. The program will alert you if you choose a username that is already taken. Just try again. There are no limits to the amount of times you may attempt. (Don’t forget your username and password!)
3. You may choose some of the things that interest you most in the next session, and twitter will make suggestions based on your choices. However, you also may opt out of this step and move to the next. You do not have to search for other users. You may do this later if you want to do so.
4. The next step will ask if twitter may search your email contacts. Again, you do not have to do this. You may skip this step.
5. Again, you don’t have to choose sources that interest you, nor do you have to search for friends at this screen. In fact, it’s easier if you wait to do this step until your account is set up.
6. The next screen will confirm that you are done and you may update your own twitter status. In addition, there will be a notice that an e-mail confirmation has been sent to you. Log in to your email and confirm your account so that you may set up your phone and follow friends on twitter, including okcc.
7. After you confirm your account through your email, you will be allowed back into twitter. You may have to sign back in to your account. Login using the username and password that you set up in #2.
8. To follow OKCC, you will click on find people and type okcc in the search box. Click on okcc and then click follow.
9. When you click on your home button, you will see all the updates from okcc.
10. If you click on settings, you may change your time zone and your email if you like in your account settings. You also may change your mobile settings. If you click on mobile and follow the directions to enter your phone information. You may be able to enter your phone number directly, or twitter will tell you how to set up your cell phone using your phone. You don’t have to connect your cell phone to your twitter account, but it will make it easier for you to retrieve updates from those you are following.
11. After you set up your phone, click on following, and then click on okcc again. Next to the logo, you will see a gray phone to the right of okcc. All tweets from okcc will then be sent to your cell phone through text messaging. You will get updates on weather, upcoming events and activities at Oak Knoll.
12. If you would like to update your twitter account from your phone, you may text your updates to 40404. You may only do this after your phone is set up, however.
13. Note: Twitter is free. It doesn’t cost to tweet, but if you do not have unlimited text messaging, there may be charges associated with your cellular provider.
14. Be patient. Twitter has a slight learning curve. If you have questions, ask Jake to help you. Once you are following OKCC, you will be able to see all those who are following okcc. You may follow fellow members and they may follow your updates. Don’t worry – they won’t know anything about you that you don’t type into that status update. If you don’t want people to know what you’re having for breakfast, don’t type it in; however, if you are would like to share information about the new restaurant in town, share with your friends. They may thank you for it.
