Golf news

Congratulations to the teams of Butch Martin/Luke Scobel, Johnny Schillace/Justin Cryer and Merlin George/Jeff Oescher as they teamed up to win their respective flights in the inaugural Miller Lite Spring Scramble golf tournament presented by the Men’s Golf Association . Each team narrowly squeaked by in their flights as all scores were tightly bunched together from top to bottom. The handicapped two-player scramble proved to be a fun, exciting format that provided every team an opportunity at low scores. After a scare with the weather on Saturday’s first round, mild temperatures dominated the rest of the weekend providing the players comfortable playing conditions. The golf course was in spectacular shape with greens speeds ideal and tee shots racing down the fairways. Thanks to all who participated as we look forward to this event morphing into another great tournament at Oak Knoll.

Next on the schedule will be the Senior Club Championship which will be a 36-hole, stroke play competition held over the weekend of May 21-22. Luke Scobel is the defending champion and plans to not let go of his title without a fight.

From the Red Tees

LGA Team Play was hit hard by the inclement weather and ultimately shortened to only two days.  Though the Blue Team led at the end of the first day, they could not hold off the Purple Team on the second day, allowing them to win the event.  The Pink Team came in second.

The winners were Nancy McCann, Rene Amond, Johnnie Newsham, Kelly Coudrain, Margo Delaughter, Margaret Hawkins, Stacie Gabriel, and Suzanne Oescher.

Individuals earning the most points for their team were:

Purple-  ReneAmond +9 & Margo Delaughter +8

Blue- Josie Barnes +8 & Malloy Liner +6

Pink- Margie Monteleone +8 & Doris Evans +3

The winners were treated to a fine dinner at the expense of the other two teams.  Somehow we’ve got to break Rene’s hold.  This was a three-peat for her team.

Birdies for March-  ReneAmond, Kelly Coudrain, Sheryl Morales, Mary Ortego, and Donna Sweet (1 each); Josie Barnes, Malloy Liner (2 each); Stephanie Mayer, Sharol Rowell, and Patsy Trepagnier (3 each); Johnnie Newsham (4)

In Northshore Team Play Beau Chene, having already clinched first place watched as the battle for second unfolded.  Oak Knoll played Money Hill and won by a score of 29-25; However that was not enough, as Cov.-Tchefuncta beat Pinewood and nudged past Oak Knoll in total scores to win second.  The ladies who represented Oak Knoll this time were Sharol Rowell & Johnnie Newsham (A); Sheryl Morales & Stephanie Mayer (B); and Rene Amond& Kelly Coudrain (C)

In the North Shore Womens’ Golf Association event (Best two of four balls) played at Pinewood, Kelly Coudrain was the only one from OKCC to be on a winning team.  She won a second place prize.
