Golf news

Congratulations to Daryl Fontenot and Steven Vogel as they teamed to claim the Miller Spring Scramble. The master Fontenot and his apprentice Vogel blew the field away as their team chemistry was too much for the rest of the players to handle. The golf course was in spectacular shape for the contestants and the weather was even better. 60 players enjoyed great food, fun, and camaraderie.

Other flight winners included Billy Wright/Angelo Giardina and Bill Lindsey and his son Bill Lindsey, Jr.

From the Red Tees

LGA Team Play finished with the Kool Kats holding on to their first place by a small margin 40 -37.  Going in with a  7 point lead they may have grown a little over confident as the Red Hots really got hot, closing the gap by 4, posting a 37.

These were the ladies who got to eat the delicious dinner free while all others had to play.  One might say the teams were “playing for food”.  Doris Evans-captain, Margie Monteleone, Sharol Rowell, Rosetta Anzalone, Suzanne Oescher, Margo Delaughter, Joyce Chambers, and Pud Ozment can now gloat until next March.

Individual Third Day Winners were first, Stephanie Mayer +5; second Kelly Coudrain +4; and Doris Evans, Rosetta Anzalone, and Margie Monteleone tied for third with a +2.

The top overall scorers for each team were Kool Kats – Rosetta and Margie; Red Hots- Stephanie Mayer; and Fairway Pirates- Patsy Trepagnier and Trish Tynes.

Thanks to Johnnie Newsham and the three captains for a well-run tourney.

The concluding event of the Northshore Ladies Team Play, which OKCC ladies hosted and did not play, left Beau Chene in first place with 120 pts.  Oak Knoll ladies were second with 117 ½ pts.  The ladies who comprised the team were Sharol Rowell, Johnnie Newsham, Sheryl Morales. Kellie Coudrain, Stephanie Mayer, Rene Amond, Josie Barnes, Stacie Gabriel, and Mary Ortego.  Congratulations for your effort wait til next year!

In the regular NSWGA event Margaret Hawkins was on the 3rd place team.  Suzanne Oescher & Stacie Gabriel were on the 4th place team

Golf news

Steve Wilson and Adam Manuel survived windy conditions and 40 other teams to capture the third annual Subway Four-Ball Invitational held October 27-28 at Oak Knoll Country Club. Wilson, a former USGA National Mid-Amateur champion and his partner Manuel held a slim one stroke lead heading into the final round over the team of Jeff Calloway and Blaine Patin as well as Page Breaux and Felipe Del Solar of Baton Rouge. However, only Southeastern golfers Grady Brame Jr. and Charlie Sault could mount any type of charge and they were unfortunately too far back to catch the leaders. The winning total of 11-under par was good enough for a three stroke margin over the collegiate duo as the tough conditions provided the field with many challenges.

Windy and cool conditions challenged the 82 players over the weekend as the golf course was in superb condition. The putting surfaces for the players were smooth and quick which was a pleasure for all players. Other flight winners included:

First Flight-Rick Bostick & Chase Bullington

Second Flight-Greg & Matt Hampton

Third Flight-Noel Gauthreaux & Kenny Barnes

Fourth Flight-Buddy Baham & Andrew Mercante
