FROM THE RED TEES: JOYCE CHAMBERS

As a first order of business the new officers were installed by Patsy Trepagnier in a candle-light
ceremony. They are: Rene Amond – LGA President; Sheryl Morales- LGA Vice President; Kelly
Coudrain- LGA Secretary; Joy Peterson- LGA Treasurer. Congratulations, ladies.
Rene received her tribute from the club in appreciation for her leadership.
All other business was dismissed and the meeting turned over to the Christmas party.
Chairperson Pud Ozment who after welcoming and introducing our guests announced the
party would be different this year. Then as she started announcing her plans to the group,
she caught the recipient completely off guard when she said it would be someone being
named “Queen for a Day”- Joyce Chambers. Actually it was a “Roast”. It was fun, certainly for
Joyce, but the committee also wanted all to have fun as they roasted Joyce. They introduced
the members of Joyce’s family, Ronald, her son; his wife Rita, and Jackie McCarthy- Daughterin-
law. Clair Stephens came back to sing acapella her rendition of “What a Wonderful Day”.
The song, Clair felt, typified Joyce’s attitude toward life. Doris Evans read a poem; (really a
parody) dedicated to Joyce, “The Old Gray Mare Ain’t What She Used to Be”. Sheryl Morales
described Joyce as being competitive (I wonder why). There were many other comments.
Since I write this section, I’m being personal now and using the first person. Thank all of you
for the many years of enjoyment I have had with all of you. There have been arguments
sometimes, but at the end of the match, it’s OK. You “girls” have kept me thinking young, and
to keep up with you, I’ve had to push myself, probably aiding me physically. The ride is not over
yet! I’ll still be around pestering you as I need more help now, but I’ll try to continue to help
you and cooperate as well as compete. I’m still looking for those pink Tee Markers, at least a
few yards closer. After all I’m 90. Men have different markers for different age groups. Let’s
start something new for us old ladies. Jake is it possible? These past 31 years have been fun,
Thanks!

Now, back to the party! The food was good. Everyone brought their favorite Christmas goody.
The day was beautiful. We need to thank Pud Ozment, Trish Tynes, Hilda Misita, and Paulette
Latham for organizing such a nice affair.
No activities have been planned for January. If the weather permits and the Wednesday event
chair decides to have an event the news will be spread by email or phone
